Congratulations to him.

That was a pretty turbulent 27 years to be serving.  Can't imagine all the shit he's seen.

Hope he enjoys his retirement, it's well deserved.

Couldn't hang past 20, the military mindset had changed too much under Clinton. Was out for about a year when 9/11 happened. Yep, I guarantee you that he's seen his share.

My dad got out in '77 with 30 years.  Post-Vietnam, and the malaise of the Carter years setting in.  A miserable time to be in the military from what I've been told.

The military like in the civilian world had its ups and downs. When you had a CINC who was pro military like Regan and daddy Bush it was a pleasure. Then you get a knucklehead like Clinton who wanted us to fall under UN control it sort of turned you off.

Just think though, Woody had to deal with both Clinton and Hussein during his time. I'm sure he had to bite his tongue on a regular basis. JMO

Yea I asked him if he wanted the SMA job and he said "No. they couldn't handle the truth". I about fell out of my chair.

but for full discloser  there was 120 proof Knob Creek  at the table

a Brig General was at the Ceremony.. he told a story about Woody that was so uniquely Woody. I laughed til I cried

If I remember correctly, Woody was the reason for the start of Festivus.

condensed story on  the Coalition. Woody was a KC Star Forum member.  He was getting sent to Iraq for the 2nd time ( I Believe).  His wife at the time came on to tell us about him leaving and worried about  Chemical Weapons. After finding how  how many Veterans  were on we all tried to reassure her that  we have the best equipment etc Woody will be fine,  I mentioned that when he got home safe I'd take him to the Chiefs game on me of his choosing..it was a Raider Game in late Oct /Early Nov if I remember right. Diehard who at the time  lived near the stadium and gave him a bed/ Arrowhead got involved/ Boss got involved among many others like Mustang6/West I believe  ( i apologize to those I left out) and before you now it we were raising $$ for a veterans Org. had a dinner with a Chiefs Ambassador  showed  and it was a big deal ( Festivius 1) the KC STAR wrote a nice article about it all. I still have it on my wall.

Bottom Line ..if it wasn't for Woody's Service and continued participation overseas.. the CC would not of exist.   We are here because of Woody/ Boss and the sum of the other parts.

oh yea SPFD was an original..the first Festuv's were grand times
